You probably know there is a recommended 30 minutes (minimum) of exercising we should be doing daily but who really has the time to do this every single day, right? Between getting the kids to school, driving safely (and getting on time) to work, getting back home and maybe cook something for the family and getting everyone (yourself included) for the next day there’s not much time left. Well, we’re here to help with our 15 easy ways to stay in shape that only require a few minutes of your time.
As you’ll see in a minute, you can do all of these exercises while you’re doing something else or waiting for something to get done. Take advantage of that “wasted time” and get in shape!
1. When washing the dishes
Wouldn’t it be fun to walk or even run in place while you’re doing the dishes? You will get to do the dishes as you always do but this time you’ll also be burning some calories by just using your feet more. If you can’t run (yet) just walk in place, it’s still better than doing nothing.
2. When cooking
While you’re waiting for your dinner to boil/cook, why not use those minutes to your advantage and do some squats or pushups. You should aim for at least 10 pushups and/or 30 squats in the beginning and increase the number as you grow stronger.
3. When going to work
When was the last time you walked to work? But my work is far away so I can’t do that, you’ll say. Ok then, why not park your car a mile away from work and just walk there? Next week, you can park it even further away. I know you’ll probably have to wake up a bit earlier to get to work on time, but you need the movement and walking might even put you in a better mood when you get to work, so give it a try. I
4. When going to school
It’s similar to the above but it has a double purpose. If it’s not too far away, you could take your kids to school by foot. Wouldn’t it be great to spend a bit of time with them – these memories will last a lifetime for both you and them and it’s a great way to spend more time with them while they are still young.
5. After dinner
After eating dinner, why not take you whole family for a walk nearby or in park. Or maybe just make a funny, little train and walk through the house together for 5-10 minutes. It will be a lot of fun, you’re spending time together and everyone is getting a bit of exercise.
6. While washing your teeth
You should normally wash your teeth for 2-3 minutes every morning so why not use this time wisely? You could do squats or run in place while you wash your teeth. And this could also rub off on your husband/wife and kids.
7. While at your desk
We mostly work sitting down but what if you started sitting upright even for 5-10 minutes daily while you are working at your desk? Do you think you could do that? You’ll feel a lot better if you did.
